Initiatives taken by MGVS to provide rural families with sanitation
Laxman Landge, aged 45 years and was a field worker. He lived in Paithan. His family defecated in fields, which they had to travel some distance to access. They were not only wasting their time but the dignity and safety his female member of family was also at risk. Also this was not a healthy practice. Laxman was always afraid when he stepped out into the open fields at night, petrified that he would step on a snake or be chased by stray dogs that roamed the village. It was worse when the women ventured out into the fields at night. Even during pregnancy they had to travel a long distance.
MGVS took the initiative of helping this family and providing the sanitation facility. MGVS constructed a toilet next to his house. Proper drainage was provided.
The family members do not have to fear using the toilet during the night or on rainy days. MGVS intervention has shown positive change not only for this family but also in other people of the village. They are now able to understand the importance of a toilet on general health and wellbeing and above all security.
